Spinosaurus

Description

Spinosaurus, based on the last skeletal restoration by Scott Hartman :iconshartman: [link]

and inspired by long, interesting conversations with :iconcarlosdino: [link]

If the "sail" was instead a "hump", the whole animal would take a extremely weird profile.

P.S. I'm not happy with the color pattern. I take suggestions to improve it.

Ignoring the significant spinosaurus findings of 2014, this would still be a bit flawed.

Without the 2014 finds, we would have to base spinosaurus leg ratio on its closest relative with discovered legs. There is no other better suited for this than suchomimus.
Suchomimus actually had a very short leg ratio

Thus, this spinosaurus should be shorter.

If anything, suchomimus (distant relative to spinosaurus) pretty much resembles how spinosaurus ancestor looked like before it evolved to be more aquatic. In a way, suchomimus actually helps to prove that 2014 spinosaurus is more accurate, when you think about it. After all, suchomimus was a more primitive relative of spinosaurus of which showed signs of evolving into something at least like the 2014 spinosaurus.
Due to suchomimus resembling somewhat like an arch between a more primitive land based spinosaurid like baryonyx and very aquatic ones like spinosaurus, it is as if we can see the fossil transitions - similar to how we see monkeys, apes and humans today as examples to how we started and ended up evolving into humans.
Had spinosaurus last for a few more million years, it might have evolved into something more like a whale or even mosasaur.
